THE In-Ex HOUSE

Because of the urbanization of the last century in Korea, which was very fast and massive, the Korean housing is monotonous and its architectural elements are almost disappeared.
This project is begun from a reflecting on a traditional element of Korean architecture, that is the "sliding and swing window (deulge-yeoul chang). This window is able to connect and disconnect a interior spaces and outside. And also, for the interior space, deulge-yeoul chang can close a room or open the rooms. This Korean window is thus not a just window, but also it has a fonction of door.
We propose for the In-Ex house, an alternative of the Western housing model in 20th century, by a innovating element, a "Space-shutter" which comes from the conception of the traditional window. In addition to sliding and swing of the traditional window, the Space-shutter can be drived vertically and be turned.
The material of the Space-shutter is a paper tube. This material was used as the structural element for temporary buildings by Japanese architect, but for the In-Ex house we use this tube as an interior element of Korean housing for 21st century, may be also for an Asian housing. Thanks to this Space-shutter, the kid's rooms and the bedroom can be spatally separated, and also these rooms can be connected to the living room by a simple opening of the Space-shutters. With the same way, the habitable interior space and the balcony can be composed on the plan.
Now we can have a new type of life by designing our own In-Ex house, with a new spatiality.
