| The Playhouse
in 9 points
1. Playground.
The entire house is a playground area. There is no specific
space to play. There is no frontiere as anyone, anywhere
in the house could play. Playing is not only a children
activity and whe should all keep on playing, all life
long, daily. The space is one and can be colonized by
any member of the family as needed. Such a configuration
will allow more exchanges and communication among family
members as well as it will adapt to any use. New technologies
and medias do no longer require any reserved space since
plug-and-play and wireless now give them complete mobility.
Hubs are to be deseminated through the whole house.
2. Garden.
The house is a miniature reproduction of the outside
world where the indoor garden simbolyzes nature and
its three main components: 1- Water. A waterproof ground
for all kind of water activities. 2- Vegetation. An
interior bamboo forest directly exposed to the sunlight
coming from the south facade, hiding the kitchen and
the child's cabin. 3- Mineral. A neutral resine "in
situ" which allows a wide range of activities without
assigning any to any particular part of the house.
3. Storage.
Lateral storage liberates the space. The different functions
will plug themselves where needed. 1- Open kitchen.
It has the possibility o spread either way along the
linear storage and through the multifunctional space.
For instance, a "dining room" can be setup
beneath the child's cabin, where the low ceiling creates
a more intimate space. 2- Shelves. The linear shelves
are made of white resine to be easily washed. These
long shelves can be divided if felt necessary. 3- Desk.
Coupled with shelves integrating a wide screen for multimedia
preojections, it can be used for homework and recreation.
4- Dressing. These classical elements are located close
to the two resting areas: one behind the parent's cabin
and one suspended to the ceiling for the child. A third
small one is added at the entrance.
4. Washing units.
Two washing units with auto-wash system made of resine
are situated close to the pavillons accentuating the
contrast between classical and modern space, materials
and technics.
5. Composition.
The house's composition is based on the number 9, number
of the traditional chinese space. It draws a new version
of the "jing" sinogram, which means "a
well" in mandarin. The central patio, heart of
the house, appears when all curtains are closed, isolating
itself of all the pavillons surrounding it. Nevertheless,
this intimate space will totally vanish as soon as the
curtains are re-opened.
6. Entrance.
The entrance do not offer a general view on the whole
interior space. Taking the place of the traditional
"YingBi", the wall of the genius, a washing
unit prohibits the access to malefic spirits -who can
only go straight. So just enter the game!
