A look at doors throughout history reveals conservatism
and functionality. The focus is on its ability to open
and close an entrance and less upon the doors' influence
on the space, its relations with other spaces, and the
user. Through observing everyday life and examining
all the components that the entrance and door influence
and are influenced by, I chose to focus on three main
issues:
- To create a door that would be complete at each of
the positions throughout its full range between open
and closed.
- To attend to the presence of the door in both spaces
simultaneously and to eliminate the dead zone caught
behind it.
- To relate to the "in-between" as a state
in the transition between one space to the other and
its influence on the user.
