L-House
In a globalised world with an ever increasing pace of life, everything our parents took for granted seems to be in change. Fundamental societal changes urging us to reconsider the way of living we were used to. It is this societal change we took to the heart of our project.
The underlying idea to our concept is an L-shaped unit which can be repetitively arranged to form a larger complex. This unit offers the opportunity to have community space as well as private and individual space. When combined a large community terrace is formed, while, due to its shape, the unit also provides a smaller private terrace. The design of the flat helps to form communities and eases the form of friendship between its inhabitants. We found it important to provide a platform for such social interaction and neighbourhood-makingˇ¦
The housing arrangement cares for the follwing:
Private life: everyone needs an individual space, a small hideaway
Family life: gathering - the centre of the life at home is the kitchen. It is cosy and warm to hear the sound of chopping, cooking and eating together. It is the common-room and therefore the most precious room in the house.
Children Life: Custom made furniture consider children's' special needs
Neighborhood-life: The simplicity of meeting neighbours, chatting and helping each other is an extension of the family.
A house for a one-child-family:
Offers a gathering-space to share thoughts, meals etc.
Flats are furnished to the needs and interests of the family.
The lounge area serves as a meeting point as well as a internet/multi-media post. Interfaces/TV are projected onto the "lamp shade" from behind; all technology is housed in the foot of the lamp. The archtetype lamp shade links the old with the new. (Computer and the cosyness of "home-sweet-home")
A large table, since "all important things" are discussed at the family table - it is a place to meet, exchange and interact. A hidden groove in the middle of the table contains all things considered necessary for such a place; from kitchen tools to accessories to internet connectionsˇ¦
The kitchen is integrated in a modular wall hiding multimedia-devices, such as TV, housing control devices, as well as the childrens' scheduler. Personal trolleys for each family-member (for personal items of interest or work, etc.). Special panels on the wall allow for childhood chalk sketches or simply your favourite wallpaper...
Outside space for sportive actions and intersocial meetings. Neighbours and other children fill the lack of sisters and brothers.
