Family Furniture

Did toys turn into furniture or did furniture turn into toys?
And who is in the middle?

The pieces of furniture are the main characters in this Tableau Vivant.
A small change on the convention of chairs has granted them a life.
This change mainly consists of removing the rear legs of the chairs and sometimes the addition of feet.
The chairs become dependent on each other and their environment, with wich they interact and exist in numerous ways, creating all sorts of different situations.

Comments by juries

Alessandro Mendini :
This system gives us very complex and artificially synthetic impression.
The every corner of the spaces are complementary each other in natural shapes, and with original image of its own, they enable themselves to look wider than as they are, and the harmony by chairs and table makes even the adults think them an interesting toy work.
If I am requested to make that feeling in a word, it must be done with simple, minimal or cute.
It looks humorous as well.

Seok-Chul Kim :
This work shows that furniture not only can be used for a simple practical purpose but also may have a meaning as an object.
This work has such format that a piece of furniture can be an auxiliary of other furniture and at the same time may make other furniture attached to it.
In this work, there is included such a philosophical notion as the accommodation of a furniture not by human being but by another furniture and a human being using furniture accommodated by another furniture. Through this switching the way of thinking, it may help child to display a creative power through stimulating imaginative faculty of the child who uses this work.
So to say, this work has the great value only in view that it has such up-to-date and notional trial and existence of its own, and through this we may understand that a piece of furniture may have a meaningful work in spite that it can not have practicality at all.

Weiyu Wang :
This design, as a furniture design for kid's space, has applied the structural concept of modern art to it. This design could successfully expressed the interesting and childish feeling-the charming way of a child- by making the forms of kid's space one unified basic format by using two different sized and same shape of chairs.
