Design Report

The Project has been brought up after the search of new mechanisms that encourage the child's creativity and the development of his sensorial skills.

The building grows in height and allows the child to make out the horizon and establish a dialogue with his surroundings through the spaces that, as windows to the outer world, symbolize the connection between the child and his world.

Nature invades the semi-public space and makes it interact with the domestic interior space.
The vegetal outer skin of the building allows the passing of time to be used as a new variable. Light, temperature, colour, scent, textures…
variables that would stimulate the sensorial field of a child eager of new interests.

The interior flexibility of the flats tries to obtain an organization of space that adapts to the familiar necessities. Open or divided spaces, central or facade pieces, interstitial privative places, multiple or unique itineraries… a range of possibilities that can even be used by the child, who can, in this way, colonise his own space.

The building's 3 layers try to interpret the Japanese's housing concept of MA. Interstitial spaces that will provide different atmospheres from the inhabitants, succession of most public to the most private.

In our offer we respect and therefore promote nature as a creative source, also thought of this idea as basic part in the human development.
So the different variations are not only obtained by the human will. The housing will follow its own path and replay to the slow passing of hours, days or even seasons. We propose a natural growth and development in constant contact with nature.

The exterior vegetable skin accomplices what's inside the housing. This skin varies, becomes more dens, disappears, allows the wind come through, protects it from climate changes, filters light, allows it to come in contact, acquires different colour tones, scents, communicates visual , sense of smell and even tactile sensations.

Skin forces an interactive relationship between the exterior and the interior. So we are not only talking of flexibility in terms of "space" we are also making the variable "time" take part of this concept.

Design Description

The building is conceived after the incorporation of the houses, one per floor, in such way that the building's geometry is seen as graceful and organic. The building is settled on the land in a subtle and delicate way, almost without modifying it. The line of sight, the wind, the light acquires a great importance.

The building's 3 layers delimit in the different levels of domestic privacy:
- The outer vegetable layer is the natural filter between the exterior environment and the helical corridor that rises surrounding the nucleus of the houses.
- Wood would be the closing of the housings. The exterior side, a closing once again natural, variable, lively… but, that could be treated in its inside.
-Glass is the last layer. This material delimits the different private spaces for the different rooms. The transparency of the glass allows the understanding of the room as volatile spaces, and at the same time, in combination with the curtains (which open out) the volume turns to be materialised and the dullness causes an absolute privacy of the different rooms.

The housings adopt a neutral and organic geometry. The most important fact is to conceive them as what is happening inside, and therefore to be as free as possible.
It is looked at as a unique space "colonised" by four pieces which complete the program and answer to the basic necessities of the individual.
-rest.
-food supply.v -cleanliness/ tidiness.

The arrangement of these pieces with their own interrelation and the space around them will be what the inhabitants decide. For this reason mobility is proposed as an essential aspect of his conception.
Each home would be exclusive.

The rooms are allowed to be displaced due to a bearing system.
The bathroom and the kitchen are arranged in such a way, to be able to rotate due to a fixed point in which the different installations will pass through.
The rooms will look for a more interesting way to locate them… this result would be completed with the rotation of the bathroom and kitchen in order to obtain in each moment a better version of itself.

The housings are conceived in contact with the exterior environment. The corridor comes to take part in the human relationship, focal point of activities in constant contact with nature. The corridor is designed in order to assume the different space changes in his height. Each of these components, look for a strong activation of sensations.

Intermediate grounds are assigned to common activities,… also, reading, resting areas and benches to sit and watch the horizon. This whole activity program is completed with a common-use garden in the upper floor focused on the idea of planting and cultivating different species of flowers and plants.
These common spaces still keep the "open air" concept as main character.
