The project is developed through a general study of the daily rituals of each member of the family unit and the closeness that they share with one another. The closeness of each member is measured through their geographical relationship to one another and their spiritual relationship to one another. The analysis identified various situations and patterns that began to emerge within the behavior of the family unit. Spaces and times of the day in which more privacy is desired, and other times in which the desire for companionship is present where identified as well. Instances in which the use of digital technologies can aid the family and where the family is better without them were also identified.

The Layout of Home

The overall layout of this 2 bedroom 1 bath home is set around the idea that the most public spaces of the home occur near the entrances of the home, as one moves further into the home the individual moves into the more private spaces of the home. It was thought that the less defined the entrance of the home is the stronger the connection it has to the outside. The patio or Personal Urban Yard incorporates many plantings and a lawn that helps soften and slow the entrance process to the home while creating a breakaway point from the public arena of the building. The yard becomes a place where a child and a child with a friend can play under the close supervision of the parents. It is also a place where the parents can practice their gardening or just interact or relax with nature. As you move further through the home the activities within the areas become more private the kitchen tends to include only the activities of the immediate family, then the digital lounge space in which most people spend time together but not interacting socially. The bedrooms and bathrooms are where they spend more alone time. The bedrooms and bathrooms are elevated six inches from the remainder of the home to help create a physical break between the public and more private areas of the home. The floor materials of the home also help achieve this break.

M : The group did a very deep study and very good methodic research to analyze the world in the house and physic and the specific world in the house for three members of the family, father, mother, and kid. And so they realized very, very beautiful and sophisticated drawings, able to optimize the life in the interior of the house of each person in the private moment of the intimate part of the life of socialization. The three goals of the competition, communication,
cultural kitchen, and the life of the kid are here perfect.

K : A work that meets the subject perfectly, overall the technical solution is very good.

P : That is both sensitive and poetic and yet very well resolved and well crafted and perhaps the best example of a design that meets the specific criteria of the competition of a family with one child. And I think was well crafted, well formed as an architecture experience. In particular, I was impressed with the overall passage that was orchestrated from the entrance into the apartment unit. C: A practical solution without break through. However, some of the sensitivities in the design are appreciated, such as the separate entrance for the child, etc.
