The only constant state we
experience living in this age is the state of change.
Identity in our digitally connected globe is moving from
country specific ethnic culture to a series of much more
rapidly evolving sub-cultures within a city. As access
to products, information and services speeds up, the existence
of place itself comes into question.
Comfort within this change is achieved through a sense
of place, through adaptability within a familiar framework.
For a family to grow in an apartment the apartment needs
to evolve with them.
Flexibility is the key to the raising of a child in
today's world - the ability to adapt and respond to
influences of technology, changing lifestyle and culture.
Living spaces need to be adaptable to accommodate this
change; indeed, the right type of space should facilitate
this change.
The Kitchen becomes the central position or hub of
the house. The kitchen is located in view of the greeting
point, the threshold between public and private. The
kitchen is the mediator between all parts of the home.
It nourishes the familly.
In the future inputs are a precious and finite commodity.
Water collection storage, conservation and process treatment
is essential. Brown-water is processed into a resource
for garden nutrients and watering. Energy is collected,
conserved and monitored. Optical and digital feed keeps
us informed, connected and entertained. Computers allow
us to contribute back into the global network in free
knowledge exchange.
Material selection is critical to the survival of the
human race. Waste ceases to exist. All is re-used. |
